The Car Show in Colorado Springs was selected by the Quality Dealer Committee as 2003’s Quality Dealer. David Unruh, the dealer principal, received the award at the annual CIADA Convention. David and Kate Unruh were presented with this year’s commemorative plaque by 2002’s winner, Jim Bahne of Valley Motors Company in Englewood. David was born in Honshu, Japan where his father was serving at Johnson AFB. He graduated high school in 1974 and graduated from Phillips University with a degree in business, with a pre-law major, in 1978.
David began his career in car sales in 1976 in Enid, Oklahoma working part time, while going to college, as a salesperson for Stalcup Imports. By the time he was 23, he had earned the distinction of being recognized as the Datsun Salesman of the Year of Oklahoma.
By 1983 David had moved to Colorado Springs and opened his first lot, Executive Auto Sales which he operated until 1986 when he sold that dealership. The Car Show, Inc. came to life in 1986 and operated until 2001 in its original location. A second location was opened in November of 2001 and is now the primary location of The Car Show. The current location boasts of an acre and a half lot, a 7000 square foot building and 4 service bays.
Both David and Kate are involved with the operation of the dealership on a full time basis. That is probably one of the reasons that over 50% of their business comes from repeats and referrals. The reputation of The Car Show as being trustworthy and honest is echoed by the lending institution and the finance companies with which they do business.
David and Kate Unruh have always endeavored to maintain a business with a family atmosphere, with the focus on teamwork and excellent customer service. Even in the current slow economic times, they sold 433 units in 2003.
